temple activity instructions (2nd ward)

Temple Activity for March 5th  (2nd Ward)
Oquirrh Mountain Temple
11022 South 4000 West
South Jordan, Utah 84095
Preparation:
·       Arrange for transportation for your trek family. YM and YW presidencies should be included as resources.  (Parents of youth can be recruited if more drivers are needed)
·       Announce the meeting time and leaving time to all of your trek youth and their parents. You will be participating as a trek family but you are welcome to combine with the other families in your ward if desired.
·       Make sure all youth have a current temple recommend. (and you, tooJ)
·       Encourage youth to bring family file names for baptisms and confirmations.
·       Ask ward members to donate family file names for baptisms and confirmations.
·       Bring the youth’s Trek Journals so they can make an entry after the temple experience.
·       Make sure you have enough copies of the journal glue-in “The Purpose of Temple and Family History Work”
·       Encourage the youth to bring a pen/pencil for the journal entry. (You may want to bring some extras just in caseJ) If you plan to do the glue-in during the activity you will need glue sticks also.
Time:
·       You are welcome to leave for the temple at any time convenient for you and your trek family. Just make sure this is communicated to everyone. The latest you should arrive at the temple is 7:30pm.
·       The Baptistery does ordinances on a first-come-first-served basis. Since we do not have reserved times at the temple, coordinate with the other trek families in your ward to spread out the arrival times (your ward will be the only ward from our stake attending this temple at this time). Example: If you have 4 trek families in your ward one might leave for the temple at 6:00pm, the second might leave at 6:15pm, the third might leave at 6:30pm, and the fourth might leave at 6:45pm. This will hopefully reduce waiting times.
·       Ask someone to offer a prayer before you head out.
On the temple grounds, on the way home, or back at the church:
·       Give time for the youth to record thoughts, impressions, feelings, something learned, etc. in their journals.
·       If possible, have the youth glue the “Purpose of Temple and Family History Work” page into their journals. This may require time at a future activity if time before, during, or after the temple visit does not permit.
Purpose of this activity:
·       Remember the covenants each of us made at baptism.
·       Feel the Spirit testify of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the eternal life He made possible.
·       To remember the rescue of many pioneers who were stranded on the plains and could not help themselves. In another sense, this rescue continues today as we help ancestors who died without receiving essential ordinances and now need our help to progress in their eternal “trek”.
Driving Directions (Approx. 20-25 min. drive time):
1.     Head north on Redwood Rd.
2.     Turn left (west) onto Bangerter Highway (just over 7 miles from our neighborhood)
3.     Travel on Bangerter Hwy. appox. 5.1miles to 11400 S.
4.     Turn left (west) onto 11400 S.
5.     Travel approx. 0.1 miles.
6.     Turn right (north) onto 4000 W.
7.     The temple will be on your left.

We hope the Trek activities went well this week. This is really happening!
If you weren't able to finish the flag, journals and ancestor research, please find the time with your family to complete it.
